TiVo to SVCD Capture Guide
I used to have a Series 1 TiVo, back before TiVo used the
"Series 1" label to refer to its first-generation products. No officially-sanctioned method
for extracting video from the device was ever provided by TiVo, but some clever hackers
reverse-engineered the recording format and came up with added hardware and software to
(somewhat) easily let you pull video from your TiVo. If you're still using a Series 1
TiVo (I switched to MythTV back around 2004), you might
find the information on video extraction useful. The SVCD-mastering information is probably
of limited interest at this point; my inclination at this point would be to feed the ripped
video to HandBrake, convert it from MPEG-2 to H.264, and
save it to some network storage.
