It’s amazing what a thorough cleaning will do. First time at the range with the Mark II since its dunk in the ultrasonic cleaner, and it’s back to its usual tack-driving self. No malfunctions with either brand of ammo I have on hand.

A while back, I picked up a couple of gallon zip-locks full of .40 S&W brass at a gun show…should be about 2000 rounds between them. They’re range pick-ups, so they need work before they’re usable. That’s a lot of brass to go through in the triple-digit heat we’ve been having, so I picked up a handheld reloading press so that I might move some of this stuff indoors: [ 390 more words. ]
The ultrasonic cleaner arrived today. I should’ve taken a “before” picture of my Mark II; the breech face was all crudded up with a mix of lead and powder to where it wasn’t reliably extracting, regardless of what ammo I gave it. After 15 minutes in the cleaner with some Ed’s Red I mixed up, it’s clean enough you could eat off it…if it weren’t so small. :) The Blackhawk’s in the bath now. Only prep for both was to field strip and remove the grip panels.
Possible entry for the eating-better files? It’s low-carb, at least: lettuce, a small tomato, some taco-seasoned ground beef, and cheese. Chipotle ranch dressing isn’t shown. Even with having to cook up the meat first, it went together quickly.
