Buyer’s Remorse on 0bamaNet

Who didn’t see this coming? Oh, yes…those of us who were opposed to the cockamamie idea that the government ought to butt into the Internet:

Buyer’s Remorse on Net Neutrality

Quoting the Wall Street Journal:

When Google’s Eric Schmidt called White House officials a few weeks ago to oppose President Obama’s demand that the Internet be regulated as a utility, they told him to buzz off. The chairman of the company that led lobbying for “net neutrality” learned the Obama plan made in its name instead micromanages the Internet.

Mr. Schmidt is not the only liberal mugged by the reality of Obamanet, approved on party lines last week by the Federal Communications Commission. The 300-plus pages of regulations remain secret, but as details leak out, liberals have joined the opposition to ending the Internet as we know it.

…and The NewsTalkers:

Until Congress or the courts block Obamanet, expect less innovation. During a TechFreedom conference last week, dissenting FCC commissioner Ajit Pai asked: “If you were an entrepreneur trying to make a splash in a marketplace that’s already competitive, how are you going to differentiate yourself if you have to build into your equation whether or not regulatory permission is going to be forthcoming from the FCC? According to this, permissionless innovation is a thing of the past.”

The other dissenting Republican commissioner, Michael O’Rielly, warned: “When you see this document, it’s worse than you imagine.” The FCC has no estimate on when it will make the rules public.

175-Pound Pit Bull Hulk Shatters Misconceptions About the Breed

This dog just may be the world’s largest Pit Bull. Only 18-months-old, Hulk weighs a hefty 175 pounds.

Despite his intimidating size, his owners Marlon Grannan and his wife Lisa Grannan say Hulk is a sweet family dog and a best friend to their 3-year-old son Jordan.

Videos and photos of Hulk with their son online shatter misconceptions about Pit Bulls as ruthless monsters.

Jury sentences Hasan to death for ’09 Fort Hood massacre

Nidal Hasan, the Army psychiatrist convicted in the November 2009 shooting rampage that left 13 dead and 31 wounded, was sentenced to death Wednesday by a military jury.

Prosecutors had sought the death penalty, saying Hasan’s murderous rampage at the sprawling military base here left tragic and devastating loss for victims and loved ones.

Hasan, 42, was convicted last week on 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 charges of attempted premeditated murder. He appeared expressionless upon hearing the verdict, which came less than two hours of deliberations.

The death sentence required a unanimous verdict by the jury of 13 military officers. At minimum, Hasan faced life imprisonment. Still, while Hasan could be the first serviceman executed by the military since 1961, the appellate process could take years.

Of course, now this jackwagon will continue to steal oxygen while the appeals work their way through the system.  At least he’s one step closer to the fate he so richly deserves.

Liberal Fascism in Action

LandscapOh, wait…it’s not fascism when they do it:

Professors Caught Burning Books That Question Global Warming

They say a picture is worth 1,000 words, and such is certainly the case coming out of San Jose State University, where two environmentalist professors took a match to an anti-global warming book – plus a photo of their little exercise – leaving an image that clearly illustrates the state of science-based academic freedom on college campuses nationwide.

The image appeared on the university’s official Department of Meteorology and Climate Science webpage, no less.

The academics who took flame to page are Dr. Alison Bridger, chairwoman of the university’s meteorology department, as well as Assistant Professor Craig Clements. The offending book? The Mad, Mad, Mad World of Climatism: Mankind and Climate Change Mania.

Their brown shirts must’ve been in the wash that day, though:

Canadians Are “Spocking” Their $5 Bills in a Perfect Tribute to Leonard Nimoy

spock5caCanadians Are “Spocking” Their $5 Bills in a Perfect Tribute to Leonard Nimoy

News this week that Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy, who made the half-human half-Vulcan starship officer Spock a household name, had passed away at the age of 83 saddened Trekkies, casual fans and aficionados of his other acting work alike.

But Canadians with just a couple bucks and a pen have found their own unique way to pay tribute to the actor. As it turns out, the late Nimoy resembles former Canadian Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier (1841-1919), whose profile just so happens to grace the Canadian five-dollar banknote. It didn’t take long for Canadians to discover that with just a few strokes of a pen, the bill suddenly becomes a tribute to Spock.

There are even mirror-universe Spock notes making the rounds:

0bama’s going Bulworth…how is that of everybody in Washington, only Ted Cruz sees that?  (As usual, the “dumbass” post category is for 0bama.)

Cruz: “The Next 20 Months Are Going to Be Very Dangerous”

Prior to his speech at CPAC Thursday afternoon, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) didn’t mince words. He bluntly told reporters how nervous he is about the president’s final 20 months in office.

“The next 20 months are going to be very dangerous,” he said. “They are going to be dangerous at home. President Obama has reacted to this last election in a way that’s unprecedented. You know, prior presidents have been repudiated [and] they’ve reacted with contrition. [P]resident Obama, instead, reacted with anger and defiance.

“I believe the next 20 months we are going to see a degree of lawlessness that will exceed anything we’ve seen in the previous six years,” he continued. “I think we’re going to see executive order after executive order. I think we’re going to see the abuse of regulations in a way that crushes small businesses, destroys jobs. I think we are going to see the continued weaponization of the IRS in the federal government, and it is going to be dangerous.”

On “net neutrality”

AllYourInternetAreBelongToUsImpeach and imprison…that’s the only thing that will stop this lawless cabal:

Lawless: Having Been Shot Down by Federal Courts Twice In Attempting to Vote Themselves Powers Not Granted Them By Congress, Obama’s FCC Violates the Law a Third Time and Once Again Pronounces Themselves Lords of the Internet

The left has been agitating for this endlessly, and twice before — in 2010, I think, and then again in 2014 — the FCC acted unconstitutionally to assert power over the Internet, bequeathing upon themselves a jurisdiction never delegated to them by Congress.

In 2014, the last time a Federal Court told the FCC it was acting unconstitutionally, there were suggestions that it would try again a third time, this time by using a different tactic.

It has now in fact used that tactic. The internet is an “information service” over which the FCC has no power. So the FCC has decided, on its own authority, to declare the Internet a “telecomunications service,” over which it does have authority.

Note that Congress did not make this important change in definition. An agency charged with executing the law as Congress passes it has decided that it itself would change the law.

We are no longer a democracy, and as there is no longer even a fictive consent of the governed in our laws, there no longer exists any philosophical basis for obeying the government. Now obedience is simply required by practical considerations: because they will kill or imprison you if you don’t obey.
